MetaTrader 4 uses a trading server to connect an account to the broker environment. Different servers can provide different symbols, quotes, account types and execution conditions, so the correct server is part of the login process.
Quotes inside MetaTrader 4 are supplied by the connected broker server. Different brokers, servers and account types can use different pricing, spreads and symbol settings, so two accounts do not have to show identical prices.
The desktop terminal can run Expert Advisors and includes the Strategy Tester for historical testing and optimization. Automated trading programs should still be checked for logic, parameters and risk before use.

On desktop, confirm automated trading is enabled, the EA is installed correctly, and it is attached to the intended chart. Check the program settings and terminal logs. Mobile and WebTrader do not provide the same local MQL4 runtime as the desktop terminal.
